CM Suvendu Adhikari X post: Suhrawardy Avenue becomes Gopal Mukherjee Road; TMC says wrong man being punished
Kolkata's Suhrawardy Avenue has been renamed Gopal Mukherjee Road, honouring a Hindu neighbourhood defender during the 1946 communal riots. Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari announced the change, citing the need for historical justice. While the road was named after Lt Col Sir Hassan Suhrawardy, the move is seen by the BJP as correcting past injustices. The Trinamool Congress, however, criticizes the renaming as rewriting history.
