'Ivory cost': Tamil Nadu foresters probe sources of elephant tusks – Veerappan’s stash, dead tuskers, or private collectors?
Approximately 30kg of ivory was seized from Tamil Nadu, hinting at the revival of the ivory trade. Conservationists are concerned as the seizures indicate possible stockpile theft or fresh poaching. Despite the strict vigilance, elephant tusks are being illegally removed and traded, particularly in religious states like Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Rajasthan. Enhanced monitoring and coordination are urgently needed.
