15-year-old Kolkata building ‘amnesty’ returns to haunt ‘colony’ belt
A 15-year-old leeway by KMC allowing unsanctioned three-storey buildings has led to widespread illegal constructions in south Kolkata. Thousands of buildings, especially in the Tollygunge-Jadavpur belt, lack approved plans. Unsafe construction practices, such as building on filled-up ponds, have increased the risk of collapsing structures.
