240-million-year-old lost fossil revealed a new reptile related to dinosaurs and crocodiles

The discovery of Silescelida acristata, a fossil unearthed in Brazil, provides crucial insights into the origins of early archosauriform reptiles. This remarkable creature thrived at a pivotal time, just before the dawn of dinosaurs. While only partial remains were found, its distinctive bone structures set it apart from contemporaneous Triassic reptiles. Phylogenetic studies classify Silescelida as an early variant of eucrocopodan archosauriforms.
