475-year-old Vasai cathedral wins UNESCO Award for conservation
Our Lady of Grace Cathedral in Vasai has won a UNESCO Award of Merit. The 475-year-old structure was restored through community funding. The project cost approximately Rs 4.5 crore. The restoration revived a sixteenth-century building embodying Portuguese colonial architecture. Traditional craftsmanship was used to reinstate the interior as a living place of worship. The work took place from 2023-24.
