About 1,300 abuse survivors agree to an $800m NY Catholic Church settlement, pending signatures
The Catholic Archdiocese of New York has reached an $800 million settlement for around 1,300 survivors of sexual abuse. This settlement resulted from lawsuits filed under the Child Victims Act, which allowed claims despite prior time limits. Payments will be determined through an independent review process based on the severity of the abuse and its impact. The archdiocese plans to improve transparency by releasing more records related to accused clergy.
