Avian beauties avoid Wadhwana wetland, numbers halve to 54,000
Wadhwana, a Ramsar site near Vadodara, has seen a decline in migratory birds. The wetland hosted 98,000 birds in 2019. The latest count shows only 54,171 birds. Disagreements between irrigation and forest departments are causing fluctuating water levels. This impacts the birds' food source. The irrigation department prioritizes farmers' water needs. They release water based on agricultural demand.
