Bulgaria released 61 Griffon Vultures after 60 years, with 42 chicks fledging 10 years later

Bulgaria successfully reintroduced Griffon Vultures to Vrachanski Balkan Nature Park after a sixty-year absence. Conservationists released sixty-one birds from various European locations to aid this reintroduction effort. These efforts resulted in forty-two chicks fledging in the wild between 2015 and 2020. The local population grew to approximately fifty-five to seventy birds by December 2020. This established a new breeding nucleus, completing the initial phase of conservation.
