Can't force dad's caste on child raised by single mom: Bombay HC

The Bombay High Court ruled that a child raised solely by her mother cannot be forced to adopt her father's surname and caste. The court emphasized that a single mother's role in a child's civic identity is constitutional, not charitable. State formats should reflect welfare, not moral judgments, and school records must accurately represent lived guardianship.
