CBSE’s new Science and Math curriculum: How the two-level exam system will reshape Class 9 learning and Class 11 choices

CBSE will introduce a two-level system for Science and Mathematics from the 2026–27 session, aligned with NEP 2020. All Class 9 students will take a compulsory Standard exam, with an optional Advanced paper testing higher-order skills. Advanced scores are reported separately, reducing pressure. The reform promotes flexibility, allowing students to tailor subject choices for Class 11 and beyond, while gradually dismantling rigid academic streams and encouraging personalised, interest-driven learning pathways.
