CWC: Social stigma leads to abandonment
Social stigma and poverty are driving parents to abandon mentally-challenged children, particularly those with cerebral palsy, on Puri's Bada Danda, seeking divine intervention. The Puri Child Welfare Committee (CWC) rescues an average of 50 missing children monthly, many of whom are unidentified and vulnerable due to this practice.
