Dhanteras 2026: Why a Jhadu Means Lakshmi; when and how to buy and worship it
On Dhanteras, the purchase of a broom signifies the invitation of Goddess Lakshmi into households. It is customary to worship the new broom before use, symbolizing the sweeping away of bad luck. Brooms are harmonized with the tradition of cleanliness and prosperity. House rules dictate careful handling and storage of the broom throughout the year. Old brooms should be disposed of respectfully on designated days to honor the tradition.
