France on edge: Thousands on streets as weekend of protests begin; 70k cops deployed
France is taking significant measures to manage mounting tensions, deploying around 70,000 police officers to supervise protests over education funding and escalating living costs. In response to previous violent outbreaks, authorities have restricted protest routes. Major Parisian museums and shops have temporarily closed to prevent potential chaos as demands for enhanced educational opportunities, better salaries, and improved public services grow.
