Galileo spent his final years under house arrest at this Tuscan villa near Florence

Galileo Galilei lived at Villa Il Gioiello under house arrest near Florence for his last years. He was sentenced to house arrest by the Holy Office in 1633, and he continued his scientific work despite being blind. The villa allowed him proximity to his daughters, while also hosting discussions with students and collaborators. Renovations in 2018 revealed essential aspects of his life, including furnished rooms relevant to his work.
