Hundreds of thousands of abandoned US mines now shelter bats and snakes after mining booms
The transformation of former mining sites into sanctuaries for bats and diverse wildlife plays a critical role in ecological conservation. Bat Conservation International works closely with various agencies to ensure these habitats flourish while prioritizing public safety. By installing specialized bat gates, they effectively control human access, allowing the ecosystems to thrive. Detailed surveys evaluate these sites' conditions, establishing a national inventory to support risk management and ecological restoration efforts.
