Maharashtra anti-conversion law slapped on 2 in Pune before it comes into force on Aug 28, face defamation suit
Pune police mistakenly applied a new religious freedom act before its official start. An FIR was filed against a Uttar Pradesh man on August fifth. A UK national was also booked under the act for an event held on August seventh. Senior officers acknowledged the error and will remove the provisions. Charges will be pursued under other applicable laws after investigations.
