Maharashtra forest cover down 54.5 sq km in 2 years, Palghar worst hit: Centre’s report
The India State of Forests Report, 2023 indicates Maharashtra has lost around 54.5 sqkm of forest cover in two years. Palghar and Nandurbar are the most affected. While Ratnagiri and Thane show an increase, state-wide forest cover remains low at 16.53%. Forest fires are also a significant concern.
