Man of few words, more action: Manmohan Singh gave pan-India Rs 71,000 crore farm debt waiver
Farmers currently protesting for legal MSP and debt waiver recall the 2008 Agricultural Debt Waiver and Debt Relief Scheme, where the central government under Dr Manmohan Singh granted a significant debt waiver of Rs 71,000 crore. This scheme, unlike past initiatives, provided nationwide relief. Despite not being a lasting solution, the demand for debt relief has resurfaced among farmers.
