Mumbai’s first monsoon fury: Tree collapse kills student as heavy rains return after delayed onset; IMD raises fresh alerts

Mumbai experienced a drier-than-average June, with rainfall at both Colaba and Santacruz observatories falling significantly below normal. This deficit was attributed to a delayed monsoon onset and unusual weather patterns. Despite the dry start, heavy to very heavy showers are now forecast for early July, with an orange alert issued for Mumbai, Thane, and Palghar.
