SC lets customs revive notices for Rs20k cr duty
The Supreme Court overturned its own 2021 ruling, granting the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs the authority to pursue notices amounting to Rs 20,000 crore in potentially unpaid customs duties. The court recognized the designation of DRI officers as 'proper officers' for issuing these notices, validating a 2011 notification and a retrospective amendment in the 2022 Finance Act.
