South American frogs are losing their poisonous skin which keeps them safe from predators: Scientists reveal how they could get it back
Harlequin frogs face extinction as many species decline and some may be extinct. These amphibians are losing their toxic skin defence, leaving them vulnerable to predators. Captive-born frogs lack essential toxins, which are likely produced by skin bacteria in their natural habitat. Scientists are experimenting with feeding toxins to frogs and studying their biology for conservation to protect vital ecosystems and biodiversity.
