SRK's Swades: Aamir was first choice; R Madhavan 'killed it' in audition
Swades was first planned with Aamir Khan, who had script reservations despite liking the plot. Hrithik Roshan heard a narration, and R Madhavan auditioned, impressing writer Amin Hajee. Shah Rukh Khan later approached director Ashutosh Gowariker directly after watching Lagaan, secured the role, and delivered one of his most celebrated performances.
