'Star Trek' actress Nichelle Nichols' family awarded $13M
The family of the late Star Trek icon Nichelle Nichols has been awarded $13 million in a lawsuit against Gila Regional Medical Center. A jury found the hospital and one doctor largely liable for her care during her final days in 2022. Nichols, celebrated for her groundbreaking role as Lt. Uhura, passed away at 89 after a hospital visit.
