Taking care of mother-in-law not mandatory after son’s death: Karnataka HC
The Karnataka High Court ruled a wife is not obligated to care for her mother-in-law. This decision applies if the gift deed did not explicitly state such responsibilities. The court set aside a tribunal order directing maintenance payments to the mother-in-law. It noted contradictory claims made by the mother-in-law regarding the gift deed. The tribunal cannot create maintenance obligations absent from the deed or law.
